DON'T ALLOW ANYONE TO RUN YOUR CHURCH OR LEADERS DOWN!

I have been in the Church all of my life. Church people (notice I did not say "the saints," because saints know how to conduct themselves) have ALWAYS talked and ran their mouths TOO MUCH. I am a child of the 70's. Back in the day we had the "grapevine." This was the old rotary phones (no voice mail, no caller ID, no push button, no cordless phones). If you wanted to reach someone by telephone; they had to either be at home or in their office. And, there was no way to leave them a message.

The grapevine was very affective at spreading the latest news: death notices, event notices, etc. But, it was also used to spread the latest gossip in the Church. Sometimes the news in this gossip was factual; at times it was speculative and at times it could be full outright untruths (lies).

One thing I noticed that was different then (from now) was that you could not get away with "downing" another person's church. The latest news could be talked about; but do talk about another person's church (or their pastor) would be an instant argument. The kids as well as the adults were like this.

I remember a fight almost breaking out at Lincoln High School (where I graduated from). A prominent Baptist pastor had shut down a Pentecostal minister (in a service), who was preaching, because the man had gone over his time limit. This became a heated discussion at school.

One student said, "I know in the Pentecostal Church you all let the Lord have His way (sarcastically), but over here in the Baptist Church we have order; and the pastor was keeping order." Then the Pentecostal students said something derogatory about the pastor and the fight (not physical) was on. The Pentecostals students were not going to allow anyone to "down" their Church. And, the Baptist students were not going to allow anyone to down their pastor. Now, people will sit back and watch their Church and leaders drug through "the mud," will say nothing and even join in on the "mud slinging." My brothers and sisters; such things should not be!

Whether you are Full Gospel Baptist, African Methodist Episcopal, Church Of God In Christ, Non-Denominational, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Assemblies of God, Church Of God, National Baptist, etc., etc., etc., do not allow anyone to run down your local church, pastors, national organization. No - it would not be right to get in a fight. But, it is easy to say, "this is my Church and I will not be a part of a discussion in running it down." There are PLENTY of conversations that I have had to be very kind but firm and bring to a close. After while, people begin to respect you and know not to come to you with a lot of garbage.

I hear many people say, "why are folks always coming to me with things," as if it is some kind of badge of honor. My brother or sister, it is not a badge of honor. It often means that you are a "messy" individual and people know who to bring the latest to; because you will entertain and spread it. The Scriptures below will show you that it is not a badge of honor.

First, if you cannot be a part of a Church and under a leader that you can respect; you should move and go to a Church, where you can respect the man or woman of God. Second, if there are some bad quality traits about your Church and leadership; what good is coming out of you spreading it all over creation. What is the purpose? What is the motive? Other than being messy. Third, church organizations should be like a family. We may be able to fight amongst ourselves regarding disagreements; but it is absolutely wrong to take that outside of the church family and involve other people that have nothing to do with it.

There's a secular song, I remember from when I was in elementary school, that would be good to apply to church folks, "You talk too much; you never shut up." Here's what the Bible says about the matter (look especially at Romans 1:29-32):

Proverbs 16:28. A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.

Proverbs 20:19. Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.

Proverbs 26:20. For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.

Leviticus 19:16. You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

1 Timothy 5:13. Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not.

Proverbs 6:16-19. There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

2 Corinthians 12:20. For I fear that perhaps when I come I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish—that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.

Exodus 23:1. “You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.

Psalm 34:13. Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.

James 4:11. Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.

Psalm 101:5. Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.

Titus 3:2. To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

Exodus 20:16. “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Matthew 12:36. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,

Romans 1:29-32. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God's decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

SEXUAL PREDATORS "IN" THE CHURCH!!!

I think one of the worst crimes a person can commit; is the sexual violation of a child. It does not get any lower than that. Rape is right behind that; if not equal with it. The "visible" church is made up of all kinds of people. Along with that, you have people that come and go. While church should be a "safe place," it is a place full of vulnerable people - who are seeking for a relationship with God.
There are predators who take advantage of that. They are ruthless. Such individuals must be brought to justice and those victimized must be ministered to, to wholeness.

Along with this, there are a lot of people that have sexual addictions and are prone to sexual sin. There is hope for these individuals to find restoration and also help to stand and live a consistent Christian life.

Get your Bible and listen to this timely teaching; that covers all of the above issues. Comment below and also be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel as well.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM MISSOURI MIDWEST!

Missouri Midwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction (MMEJ or affectionately known as "JJ" for the "jumping jurisdiction) is comprised of 65 congregations of the Church Of God In Christ; located in the heartland of America. MMEJ is committed to the mandate of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, around the globe, with signs following!

WILL THE PRESIDENT'S TAX CUTS BENEFIT THE WORKING CLASS?

There is much speculation, dialogue and controversy, over President Donald Trump's tax cut. I have heard a lot from "both sides of the aisle." Nevertheless, I received a presidential email today, explaining all of the benefits to the working class.

While there is a lot of emotion, regarding who is for or against the president; I have very little faith in media reporting. There is always an agenda. It appears to me, that the agenda is to keep the nation divided and uninformed. "Black vs White," "Two Americas," "The Haves and the Have Nots," make for real good news stories. Bad news sells. News stories about people trying to gain an understanding of each other; (unfortunately) do not make good headline stories. I want to know the truth. Not just what someone "spoon-feeds" me, in order for them to make a dollar.

Below is what the president outlined. Read and comment and tell me what you think. Is this too good to be true? Does this just look good on the surface? Will it harm the poor and vulnerable? If so, is there anything that we can do about it now? (Here are the president's words from his email in italics):

1. The Tax Cuts Act means less money taken out of Americans’ paychecks. It provides $5.5 trillion in tax cuts by doubling the standard deduction, doubling the child tax credit, protecting tax savings for higher education and retirement, and lowering rates across the board.
  • For individuals, the standard deduction will be increased from $6,500 to $12,000.
  • For single parents, the standard deduction will be increased from $9,550 to $18,000.
  • For married couples, the standard deduction will be increased from $13,000 to $24,000.
  • The vast majority of American families will now be able to file their taxes on a single page because they lower taxes by claiming the standard deduction.
  • American families will see their Child Tax Credit doubled to $2,000 per child under age 17.
2. The bill puts American businesses on a level playing field with foreign competitors. America’s corporate tax rate will go from being the highest in the developed world to below the average for Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

3. The act will eliminate dozens of special interest tax breaks and loopholes. It tosses out a loophole used to deduct compensation for executives earning more than $1 million a year. Washington isn’t spared, either: Members of Congress will no longer be able to deduct living expenses.

So what do you think?

RESPECT FOR THE MAN AND WOMAN OF GOD!

I do realize that we are in a day where so much is being uncovered. According to the Word, in the last days, there will be deceivers (2 Peter 3:3) and wolves in sheep's clothing (Matthew 7:15). Such men and women SHOULD be stopped (Titus 1:11).

However, NOT everyone is a false teacher. MANY ministers of the Gospel are hard working, honest, integral men and women of God. The Bible says that such should be respected and held in high esteem (1 Timothy 5:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:13). All ministers should not be "bunched" together with deceivers and disrespected.

Many times, when it comes to disrespecting ministers, people use the Scripture, "touch not my anointed..." (1 Chronicles 16:22). However, in context, that passage is referring to God's people as a whole; not just leaders. There are plenty of other Scriptures that let us know that God is displeased when His servants are disrespected....

First, when Paul was commanded to be slapped at the High Priest's command, he called the man (High Priest) out of his name. Paul was immediately reprimanded and begged pardon for being out of line; because THE WORD said he (Paul) was WRONG:

Acts 23:3-5 3Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!" 4Those who were standing near Paul said, "How dare you insult God's high priest!" 5Paul replied, "Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: 'Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.'"

Second, there are "rules of engagement" and protocol even in the spiritual realm. As evil and wicked as Satan is, he is yet a "dignitary" in the spiritual realm. The angels recognize that. Thus, Michael (an arch angel) did not use a lot of derogatory language and "disrespect" against Satan; but let him know, "The Lord rebuke you!" If angels have this kind of sense in dealing with THE ENEMY; who are we disrespect a man or woman of God?!

Jude 8-10 The people I am talking about are behaving just like those dreamers who destroyed their own bodies. They reject all authority and insult angels. Even Michael, the chief angel, didn’t dare to insult the devil, when the two of them were arguing about the body of Moses. All Michael said was, “The Lord will punish you!” 10 But these people insult powers they don’t know anything about. They are like senseless animals that end up getting destroyed, because they live only by their feelings.

Third, the leadership of the early church was referred to as "elders." These were normally older or mature saints in the congregation. Thirty was considered mature in those Bible days. Jesus and most of the apostles began their ministry in their thirties. You had two kinds of elders in the early church. Preaching elders and business elders (who we would refer to now as "deacons"). But, they were all elders and they were due respect.

While the local congregations were ruled by a group of elders; "clusters" of congregations were led by an apostle. Apostles had "assistants" that would assist in the overseership of these clusters of congregations. We would now refer to these assistants as "bishops."

Timothy was one of these assistants. Paul (the apostle) assigned his assistant, the bishop (Timothy) to oversee the work at Ephesus. Here is the thing. Timothy was OVER the elders; because he represented the apostle (Paul). However, the apostle (Paul) gave Timothy strict instructions NOT to rebuke any of these elders; but to RESPECT them. Timothy was to deal with them as parents and the rest of the saints as siblings. IF THE BISHOP HAD TO RESPECT THE PREACHER; WHO ARE WE TO EXALT OURSELVES AND DISRESPECT THE MAN AND WOMAN OF GOD?! Here is what THE BIBLE says:

1 Timothy 5:1-2 1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

Finally, this particular writing is referring to honoring those leaders who are living right and being an example of holiness and integrity. However, the Bible does explain what is to be done in the case of sinning preachers:

1 Timothy 5:19-20 19Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses. 20But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before everyone, so that the others may take warning.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! I have made it home safe to St. Louis! For the FIRST time in history, the COGIC Department of Evangelism did a crusade/meet & greet in the Rocky Mountains this week: Rapid City, South Dakota, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Boise, Idaho and Ogden, Utah!

I'm grateful to Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, who authorized this series of events! And for Lady Rachel Hankerson and my kids; being supportive of me driving the rugged Rockies in the dead of winter! Thank God for His travelling mercy!

Bishop Carr, Bishop Ganison, Bishop Golden and Bishop Allen were all splendid hosts. They ALL are doing tremendous, anointed work for JESUS CHRIST! This is a trip I will always remember; and it will always be one of the highlights of my entire life.

Elect Lady Dorinda Clark-Cole had a major concert with The Clark Sisters and was unable to attend; but was faithful to provide greetings electronically. The saints in each state were EXCITED to hear from her.

The area Regional Presidents for Evangelism (Eld. Sean Kelly Tatum, Pastor Lawrence C Boles III and Bishop Donald Bronson) were ALL in attendance!

Not only were we able to connect with the evangelism workers of these states; but the bishops made sure that the entire leadership of their jurisdictions are on board with the work of outreach, soul winning and evangelism. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! Stay on the lookout-GREATER IS COMING! EVERY TIME I TURN AROUND....!!!!!

MISSILES PREPARED TO DESTROY HUMANITY!

Looks are most definitely deceiving! (This evangelistic tour of South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho and Utah has been quite enlightening). This picture "looks" like miles of open road and wilderness. However, I was told that no nation would be foolish enough to launch an attack on the United States homeland. There's enough weaponry (under the surface of this undisclosed wilderness area) to annihilate every human on the planet and send the Earth into a "nuclear winter," where there would be no life on the planet for at least 200-300 years. Furthermore, this region  is a caldera; thus, any nuclear attack on this area would set off a "super-volcano" the largest volcanic explosiveness possible.

In this country, it looks like we are protected by not only God's angels above us-but a network of missiles below us.

CAN A CHRISTIAN LIVE FREE FROM SIN? PART 1

Please listen, study and share this vital, biblical message...

BISHOP C H MASON HAD AN INTERGRATED CHURCH!

As of this writing the International Department of Evangelism of the Church Of God In Christ is in the midst of "Evangelism in the Rockies." This is a 4 state, 4 jurisdiction tour; over 4 days. The first stop was the South Dakota Jurisdiction; led by Bishop Michael Carr. Not only is this jurisdiction fully committed and active at the work of Evangelism; but it is a totally integrated jurisdiction (see the attached photo).

We pride ourselves in the Church Of God In Christ in being the largest "predominately black" Pentecostal church in the world. However, that is somewhat inaccurate; because Senior Bishop Mason had an integrated church. And, our current leader, Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr., has expanded our global outreach, further than it has been in history. For example, we have some jurisdictions, outside of the United States, that are triple the size of many domestic jurisdictions. One jurisdiction in India has over 1000 churches, Brazil has over 150 churches; the same for the Philippines. Some of the greatest supporters of the Department of Evangelism are in Brazil and Guatemala.

During the lifetime of Bishop Mason (prior to the 1914 founding of the General Council of the Assemblies of God) the Church Of God In Christ was 40% white! There was an entire subsidiary of Mason's church called "The White Church Of God In Christ." All of these individuals carried credentials with Bishop Mason's (he was called "General Overseer" at that time) name on them.

We had a large number of Hispanic churches in the state of Colorado. To my understanding some of them are yet in existence; even though they are not fully participating with the national body. As has been related to me, during the conflict of the 60's these churches were lost in the shuffle.

The Azusa Street Revival (where Bishop Mason received the gift of the Holy Ghost) was totally integrated in both leadership and the worship experience. I believe in order for us to experience true revival - this is one of the things that we will have to deal with: the racial divide.

WHERE ARE THE MIRACLES?

Many of our churches (including mine) have great "church" every Sunday. By Sunday afternoon my timeline blows up on social media; with many people talking about how explosive Sunday service was. Great! But, here's the issue; where are the testimonies of the lame walking, the blind seeing, etc.?

The Bible says that God confirmed the Word with signs following; and that the Word brings healing:

Mark 16:20. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the LORD worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Psalm 107:20 He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.

Out of the mouth of two or three witnesses, every word is established (2 Corinthians 13:1). Thus, I believe that the issue is; the WORD must be preached, in order for the confirmation to come. Second, there must be a life of consecration for the fire to fall (1 Kings 18:38). I believe that we will see the mighty Hand of God do great exploits in our day!

BREAKING NEWS: THANK YOU FOR ELECTING ME PRESIDENT OF THE SAINT LOUIS METROPOLITAN CLERGY COALITION!

Wow! I give GOD the praise! Today I was elected (unanimous vote) as president of the St. Louis Metropolitan Clergy Coalition (SLMCC). SLMCC is the oldest and largest minority clergy association in St. Louis. It is made up of hundreds of churches and pastors from all denominations and those of no denominational affiliation!

This year (2017) marks the 30th year that the Coalition has been in existence. It was noted, in the election meeting today, that this is the first time that a Church Of God In Christ, Inc. clergyman has been elected to lead this prestigious group. Next year will mark 20 years that I have been a member of the Coalition.

Those that desire to run for office in the Coalition must be presented to the nomination committee. The nomination committee does its due diligence in screening applicants and then presenting those who qualify to the parent body. The parent body then votes on those qualifying candidates. I am truly grateful for everyone being so supportive throughout this process; including my wife, children, church family, jurisdictional family and Department of Evangelism family.

Rev. Dr. Charles Brown currently serves as president and has done an outstanding job; especially first coming into office, in the heat of "Ferguson." Dr. Brown is the pastor of the Mt. Airy Missionary Baptist Church.

My term begins January 1st, 2018. And, the installation service information is forthcoming! Congrats are also in order for all new officers, who also officially begin working January 1:

Bishop Elijah H. Hankerson III, President
Rev. Carl Smith, 1st Vice President
Rev. Chuck Norris, 2nd Vice President
Rev. Birch, Secretary
Rev. Burton Barr, Treasurer
Dr. Ronald L. Bobo, Sr., Chaplain and Parliamentarian

God gets all of the praise and all of the glory! #SLMCC

IS IT RIGHT FOR CHRISTIANS TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?

I.                   Text.

Luke 2:8-18 The Message (MSG)[1]

8-12 There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”

13-14 At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

15-18 As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the sheepherders talked it over. “Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.” They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the sheepherders were impressed.

II.                Purpose.

There was great celebration at the birth of Jesus Christ: our Savior. However, nowhere in the Bible does it say that we are to or are not to celebrate Christmas. A lot of information, being taught now, is confusing; because some are saying that it is sinful to celebrate Christmas and others have taken Christ out of it altogether, making it a day for wild partying. Today, (on this first day of Advent – which are the four Sundays before Christmas) we want to give a balanced view (from the Bible) on whether it is right or not to celebrate Christmas.

III.             Introduction.  Here are some things that we do not have to argue about:

A.                It’s a known fact that many of the symbols of Christmas are from Pagan origin:

·                     Christmas Trees.

·                     Wreaths.

B.                 It is also a known fact that many practices have nothing to do with the birth of Christ:

·                     Santa Claus

·                     Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

·                     Frosty the Snowman

C.                A lot of Christian teachers have also corrected many erroneous views about the birth of Christ

·                     It wasn’t a silent night

·                     It was very unlikely that Christ was born in the Winter time

·                     We do not know the number of wise men

·                     The wise men did not visit Jesus (as a baby) in the manger; but as a child in a house

D.                As a matter of fact, it’s known that December 25th itself was originally a Pagan holiday. It celebrated the Winter Solstice in Europe (the time when the days start to get longer) and even in ancient Persia it was a day devoted to idol worship (celebrating light over darkness).

E.                 Question: With all of this in mind; is it right for Christians to celebrate Christmas and is Jesus the reason for the season?

IV.              Body. Here are the points that will answer our question:

A.                Christians can adopt (to use something) without adapting (to allow something to change you):[2]

1.                  It is not unusual for “Judeo Christian” (Israeli and Christianity) faith to adopt the practices of the culture around them and to adapt them to our beliefs:

a.                  Anointing with oil was adopted from Egyptian culture.

In ancient Egypt, when a king was inaugurated, a strong animal was killed. Its fat was then smeared on the new king. The symbolism was that the strength of the animal was transferred to the king. However, we have not been anointed with animal fat; we have been anointed with the Spirit of God Himself.

b.                  The Tabernacle was adopted from Egyptian culture.

It was the custom to have a “portable throne room” for the Pharaoh to travel in. The Tabernacle (a portable sanctuary for God) was adopted from this concept.

c.                   The concept of an “apostle” came from Roman culture.

“Apostles,” in Roman culture were not preachers. They were special messengers, sent with special authority. Jesus adopted this concept and referred to His founding ministers as, “apostles.”

2.                  So there is nothing wrong with adopting the “concepts” of the culture around us (technology, infrastructure, finance, etc.); without adopting the ungodliness of the world. We are in the world, but not of the world:

Luke 16:8-9. The Message (MSG)[3]

Streetwise people are smarter in this regard than law-abiding citizens. They are on constant alert, looking for angles, surviving by their wits. I want you to be smart in the same way—but for what is right….”

John 17:16

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

1 John 2:15

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

3.                  Being not of the world, means that we do not celebrate Christmas (or any other event), in the same manner as the world does:

1 Peter 4:2-3 Contemporary English Version (CEV)[4]

… you have turned from your own desires and want to obey God for the rest of your life. You have already lived long enough like people who don’t know God. You were immoral and followed your evil desires. You went around drinking and partying and carrying on

Romans 13:13 Contemporary English Version (CEV)[5]

13 So behave properly, as people do in the day. Don’t go to wild parties or get drunk or be vulgar or indecent. Don’t quarrel or be jealous.

B.                 Christians are not instructed in the Bible, TO celebrate Christmas and it does not prohibit us to NOT to celebrate Christmas. As a matter of fact, according to the New Testament, one day is not above the other.

Romans 14:5.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

Romans 14:6.

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

C.                Christians are admonished in the Bible, to be led of God. If we celebrate Christmas, we cannot look down on people that do not. If we do not celebrate Christmas, we cannot look down on people that do.

Romans 14:5, 10-12, 13-14, 22-23. MSG.[6]

Or, say, one person thinks that some days should be set aside as holy and another thinks that each day is pretty much like any other. There are good reasons either way. So, each person is free to follow the convictions of conscience.

10-12 So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you when you condescend to a sister? I’d say it leaves you looking pretty silly—or worse. Eventually, we’re all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren’t going to improve your position there one bit.

13-14 Forget about deciding what’s right for each other. Here’s what you need to be concerned about: that you don’t get in the way of someone else, making life more difficult than it already is. I’m convinced—Jesus convinced me!—that everything as it is in itself is holy. We, of course, by the way we treat it or talk about it, can contaminate it.

22-23 Cultivate your own relationship with God, but don’t impose it on others. You’re fortunate if your behavior and your belief are coherent. But if you’re not sure, if you notice that you are acting in ways inconsistent with what you believe—some days trying to impose your opinions on others, other days just trying to please them—then you know that you’re out of line. If the way you live isn’t consistent with what you believe, then it’s wrong.

D.                So is Jesus the reason for the season? That is all up to the individual. HOWEVER, the light of the Gospel does shine during the Holiday season as the story of the birth of the Savior is shared by all means of media. That is half of the battle: realizing that a Savior has come. BUT, the other half of the responsibility is on the believer to share that this Savior that was born as a babe in Bethlehem, grew up, died on the Cross for our sins, rose from the dead and is coming again!

V.                 Conclusion.

So if the Bible does not command us TO or NOT TO celebrate Christmas; what celebration does the Bible call for (or say that we ARE to celebrate).

A.                We are to celebrate when a believer, who has gone astray, comes back to the fold!

Luke 15:6 Contemporary English Version (CEV)[7]

… Then you will call in your friends and neighbors and say, “Let’s celebrate! I’ve found my lost sheep.”

B.                 Heaven celebrates when a lost soul is saved!

Luke 15:7

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

C.                We are to celebrate because our name is written in Heaven.

Luke 10:20

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

D.                If your name is NOT written in Heaven; pray this following prayer (sincerely) to receive Christ as Lord and Savior:[8]

"Father, I know that I have sinned against You. Please forgive me. Wash me clean. I promise to trust in Jesus, Your Son. I believe that He died for me—He took my sin upon Himself when He died on the cross. I believe that He was raised from the dead. I surrender my life to Jesus today.

"Thank You, Father, for Your gift of forgiveness and eternal life. Please help me to live for you. In Jesus' name, Amen."

FATHER OF COGIC URBAN INITIATIVES VP HAS PASSED AWAY

Superintendent Nathaniel Smith, a long serving Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) pastor in St. Louis, Missouri has passed away. Smith was the father of Evangelist Paula Hearn, Executive Vice President of COGIC Urban Initiatives. The following is from the Missouri Eastern First Jurisdiction Facebook page:

"Elder Smith joined Fountain Temple COGIC in the early 50’s and served faithfully under the leadership of Elder Virgil Sharp and the Elder Horace Beverly. He has served as deacon, Sunday School, and YPWW teacher, chauffeur, janitor, just to name a few.

After preaching and dancing around the offering table, the Lord blessed and his call into the ministry was confirmed. He was licensed and ordained to preach the gospel while serving under the leadership of Elder Horace Beverly.

One of his loves was working with the Evangelist Department. Because of his faithfulness to God and the work on the church, he was appointed to pastor in Pacific, MO in 1971 and later assigned the additional responsibility of pastoring in Robertsville, MO.

Elder Smith’s devotion to God continued and in 1974 he was appointed to pastor his home church, Fountain Temple Church Of God In Christ. In addition to his duties at Fountain, he is also District Superintendent of the Virgil C. Sharp District and the District Chairman of Superintendents for Eastern Missouri First Jurisdiction.

He and Missionary Mary Smith, who has passed on, loved the life they live and lived the life they love. They lived right next door to “The Old Fountain” which is where they raised their children and taught them to love and respect God.

For several years the church held a “Building Fund Drive” and on April 2, 1995 Elder Smith lead the saints in a march northward on Bayard, into their new church at 1138 Bayard Avenue.

In March 2000, God blessed Elder Smith with another angel, District Missionary Willie Mae Thomas who has been working faithfully by his side.

Elder Smith has coined a phrase that you will always hear whenever he is in the presence of the saints, “Stay with God”. He may not know all the words to a song, but he can tell you that: Living He Loved Me, Died, He Saved Me, Buried He Carried My Sins Far Away, (___this is the part he always forgets___) and “When The Lord Gets Ready, You’ve Got To Move”.

He will be greatly missed. Rest in Heaven Supt."

BISHOP WILLIAM SCOTT HAS RETIRED!

After 20 years of service, Bishop William Scott, has retired from both the Mt Calvary Church Of God In Christ (COGIC), of Washington Park, Illinois, as pastor and the Illinois Southeast Jurisdiction, as jurisdictional prelate. Scott was known throughout the St. Louis area for his dynamic preaching ability.

In COGIC, when a Jurisdictional Bishop retires, resigns or becomes incapacitated; both the local church and the jurisdiction falls under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop or his designee. Most offices (with the exception of a few) become immediately vacant. In this case, Bishop Scott had already appointed Pastor Charles Rodgers as pastor of Mt Calvary, prior to his (Scott's) retirement. Rodgers is a well-loved minister from Columbus, OH that used to live in the St. Louis area.

Nevertheless, the jurisdiction has been delegated to fall under the leadership of Bishop Lawrence M. Wooten, one of the General Board members of COGIC. Bishop Wooten will serve as "interim bishop," and will oversee the process of "recommendation" for the next jurisdictional bishop. Wooten resides in St Louis, Missouri, right across the Mississippi River.

The Presiding Bishop is the only person in COGIC who can "make" a bishop; with the approval of both the General Board and the General Assembly. The tradition is that the pastors in "good standing" with the national Church, are normally allowed to vote on a "recommendation" for the next bishop. However, it is only a recommendation.

To become a jurisdictional bishop of an existing jurisdiction is a tedious process. And, it should be - as this is a very important office and should not be taken lightly. A gentleman must: (1) "win" the recommendation, (2) be approved by the Presiding Bishop, (3) be ratified by the General Board, (4) be ratified by the General Assembly, (5) pass all screening and background checks, (6) attend the Episcopal Academy and meet all of its prerequisites, (7) be inducted into the Board of Bishops in the "Induction Chamber" (8) receive consecration, at the hands of the Presiding Bishop and the General Board and (9) receive an official certificate of consecration and appointment from the office of the General Secretary.

There are a number of qualified men to ascend to this office Illinois Southeast. We are praying for God to bring to the forefront, whom He (God) desires to stand in this holy office; and we are praying for Bishop Scott and his wife to enjoy their retirement.

REPRESENTATIVE JOHN CONYERS RETIRES!

Representative John Conyers, Jr., representative of Michigan's 13th congressional district and civil rights activist has announced his retirement (effective immediately); in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct. Truly, this is "earth shattering" news; especially to those of us involved in the Civil Rights Movement. How does the Bible speak to this?

First, neither you nor I will never know the entire story, because we were not there. Second, its very difficult from today's media, what is truth and what is sensation. Thus, if the man is guilty, we pray that he finds resolution with God and the victims. If people were victimized, we pray that they find emotional healing. We ask God to heal the scars and provide a sense of resolve and closure. If it is all untrue, we pray that the truth will be manifested. Again, we were not there; but the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good (Proverbs 15:3).

Since, judgement must begin at the house of God (1 Peter 4:17); this event should be a warning and "wake up call" for us to examine ourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5). 1 Corinthians 10:12 says, "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!"

Apostle Paul also admonished us on how we are to entreat those that are in civic offices. As a matter of fact, he stated that we are to pray FIRST for all those in authority, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness" (Timothy 2:1-2).

The government and ESPECIALLY the media has an agenda. Therefore, we must weigh whatever it is that we hear in the news; and ask God to help us to discern what is fact and what is fiction. The Bible says in 1 John 4:1, "My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you."

Let us pray for everyone involved and also the citizens of the state of Michigan.

WHY WAS BISHOP C. H. MASON EXCOMMUNICATED FROM THE BAPTIST ASSOCIATION?

While it is a know fact that the late great founder of the Church Of God In Christ, Bishop C. H. Mason was excommunicated from the Baptist Association in the late 1800's; nevertheless the question is, "why?"

While we know that he preached "Holiness," people preach Holiness now and do not get kicked out of churches. What was the exact edge that Mason preached from; that caused people to become infuriated? Find out by going to my YouTube channel, "Bishop Elijah Hankerson." And, be sure to subscribe.

If you are on Facebook, the video of this historical information can be found there as well.

BISHOP P A BROOKS APPOINTS ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS!

Bishop P. A. Brooks, First Assistant Presiding Bishop of the Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) and prelate of the "Historic" Michigan Northeast 1st Jurisdiction has appointed 5 capable and qualified men; to serve by his side as Administrative Assistants.

In the days of the late Senior Bishop C. H. Mason (founder of the Church Of God In Christ) bishops had assistants, which were known as "assistant bishops." Later, under the tenure of the late Presiding Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr., it was requested that the title be changed to "administrative assistant," due to the fact that it is only the "national" that can make bishops in the Church.

Thus, an administrative assistant helps to carry the load of the jurisdictional prelate; in his duties of administration over the jurisdiction. While it is a prestigious position; it requires much prayer, as the assistant upholds the hands of the leader. It is even a greater responsibility; when your bishop serves as the 1st Assistant to the leader of the denomination.

The International Department of Evangelism is extremely godly proud and happy for our treasurer, who is one of the men that was elevated. Congratulations to everyone; but especially our own ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT KEVELIN JONES, treasurer of the International Department of Evangelism and pastor of the Bountiful Love COGIC of Flint, Michigan.
