I.
THE BIBLE IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY. The Old and New Testament Scriptures in all
matters of controversy between Christians must be accepted as the supreme court
of appeal.
Psalm
119:89 Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.
Joshua
23:6 Be very firm, then, to keep and do all that is written in the book of the
law of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right hand or to
the left,
Joshua
1:8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all
that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you
will have success.
II.
THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD. The Bible is the Word of God and contains one
harmonious and sufficiently complete system of doctrine, all of the parts are
consistent with each other.
Hebrews
4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two- edged
sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow,
and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Matthew
4:4 But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but
by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Ephesians
6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is
the word of God,
John
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.
Isaiah
55:11 So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to
me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in
the thing for which I sent it.
III.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS TO STUDY. It is our duty to trace out the consistency of
Scripture by a careful investigation for the meaning of particular
passages.
2
Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker
who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Philippians
4:8
Finally,
brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever
is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any
excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these
things.
John
5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal
life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
Acts
17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received
the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these
things were so.
IV.
ALL CHURCH DOCTRINES ARE SUBJECT TO THE WORD OF GOD. The Word of God concerning
all doctrines is the great and final tribunal before which they must be brought
and by which they must be tried. The validity of our beliefs is measured by the
corresponding agreement with, or diversity from, that form of doctrine which is
set forth in the unerring revelation that God has given to us in His inspired
Word.
1
Timothy 1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind,
for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other
thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
2
Timothy 4:3
For
the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their
own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
Titus
1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able
by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Titus
2:1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
V.
GOD IS THE PRIMARY AUTHOR OF THE BIBLE. The Word teaches the full inspiration
of the Word of God. Inspiration is defined as the act whereby God through His
Spirit gave us the Scriptures, communicating the truth to us through the agency
of fallible humans. And even to the most minute detail we might receive the
truth which God, the Primary Author, intended to convey to us.
Psalm
18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a
buckler to all those that trust in him.
Psalm
33:4 For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in
truth.
Psalm
33:6
By
the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the
breath of his mouth.
Psalm
56:10 In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.
Psalm
103:20 Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his
commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
Psalm
105:8 He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to
a thousand generations.
VI.
HUMANS ARE THE VEHICLE THROUGH WHICH THE BIBLE WAS PRODUCED. We must
acknowledge the human authorship of the Scriptures. God is the Primary Author.
He used humans to produce the original writings (autographs) and not copies or
other versions. In these original writings there was no error, it was a perfect
book.
2
Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy
men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2
Timothy 3:16-17 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto
all good works. all good
works.

VII.
UNSCRIPTURAL DOCTRINES ARE NOT VALID. We hold the Word of God to be the only
authority in all
matters
and assert that no doctrine can be true, or essential if it does not find a
place in this word.
Jude
1:3-4 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common
salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend
earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For
certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this
condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny
the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew
7:15-20 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing,
but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do
men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good
tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear
bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear
good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you
will know them.
Matthew
24:4-5 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one
deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and
will deceive many.
2
Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his
craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in
Christ.
2
Thessalonians 2:10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish,
because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be
saved.
1
Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will
depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of
demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a
hot iron,
1
Timothy 6:3-5If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome
words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which
accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with
disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil
suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the
truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw
yourself.
2
Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine,
but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will
heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the
truth, and be turned aside to fables.
